Marin County Free Library

The Library is a special district that operates under the authority of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.  The Marin County Free Library Commission, a 15-member group appointed by the Board, advises both the Supervisors and the library staff on policies, budget, and overall needs.

The Marin County Library Foundation raises money to improve facilities, services, and resources throughout the system.

The Friends of Marin County Free Library and local friends groups support branch libraries and raise money for books, programs, and facilities.

In addition to the Library Commission, Foundation, and Friends groups, volunteers assist staff at each of our branches supporting both library and literacy services.
